Journalists want to tell stories in a way that resonates with audiences and creates impact – informing them, moving them, making them smarter, or entertaining them. More different types of media are being used today than at any time in history, but their usage is highly fragmented and takes place on all kinds of channels and in all kinds of forms.
Therefore, it is important that we journalists put the needs of the audience at the centre of our work. It’s not just a matter of using lurid content to grab attention: thanks to direct feedback from users and usage data, we are now able to produce valuable content for readers that also meets our standards for quality journalism.
With Perfect Digital Storytelling in Just Nine Steps, Alexandra Stark and Martin Oswald have produced a complete and tested storytelling manual for the (digital) newsroom, aimed at journalism students and mid-career journalists alike.
