The Norwegian government has approved funding for Bridge-Ukraine, a new project to strengthen journalism education in Ukraine.
The NOK 5m (Euro 500 000) project will run over three years and is led by EJTA-member NLA Høgskolen in Kristiansand, working with five Ukrainian university journalism schools and Sweden’s Fojo Media Institute. The project aims to build digital capacity in journalism and communication teaching and is supported by Ukraine’s Commission on Journalism Ethics, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine as well as the European Journalism Training Association.
EJTA will serve on an advisory panel and circulate news about the project on its channels.
In practical terms, the project will see the development of courses in entrepreneurial journalism and the ethical use of artificial intelligence, aimed both at journalism students and working journalists in Ukraine. The project also includes research, training in the use of digital teaching tools, as well as support for journalism teachers in providing first-level psycho-social support for students affected by war.
The project builds on an earlier EU funded project, DESTIN, which also involved EJTA. That project worked on revising 20 journalism curricula across the country between 2018 and 2022.
